E10 compatibility is model-specific

DAT publishes manufacturer-supplied compatibility information. For older vehicles the picture is mixed: some are approved, some only from particular model years or engine variants, and some are explicitly excluded.

Original specification matters

Over decades, classic cars often receive replacement hoses, seals, carburettors, tanks or engines. A historical approval does not automatically cover every aftermarket component.

Choose a reserve you can handle safely

A smaller can can be easier to secure and pour during a day trip. Capacity should reflect range, filling-station availability, luggage space and the vehicle layout rather than appearance alone.

Dedicated labelling helps with multiple classics

If different vehicles require different fuel grades, dedicate cans to each use and label them clearly while leaving the original container markings visible.

For uncertain vehicles: the handbook, manufacturer archive, marque club or a specialist familiar with the exact car can be more useful than a generic internet rule.
